Cutting edge book 'Innovations in Narrative Therapy: Connecting Practice, Training and Research' by Jim Duvall and Laura Beres. Published by W.W. Norton and Company (2011) link: http://books.wwnorton.com/books/Innovations-in-Narrative-Therapy/
Narrative therapy introduces the idea that our lives are made up of multiple events that can be strung together in many possible stories. These stories can be developed to find richer (or "thicker") narratives, and thus release the hold of negative ("thin") narratives upon the client.
Very proud of Chapter 5: When all the time you have is now: re-visiting practices and narrative therapy in a walk-in clinic... written by ROCK's own clinical manager Karen Young.

We know we need to brush our teeth to keep them shiny and white. We would never suffer with a painful cavity for six months. We exercise to keep our bodies strong and healthy. We would never limp around on a broken ankle for six long months, allowing the injury to worsen. We wash our hands and get the flu shot to help prevent flu -- and if we caught the flu, we could receive treatment from a doctor right away. When it comes to mental health, families need to be able to access the same kinds of information and resources about prevention and receive the same critical treatments for mental health issues – without a six-month wait and/or a heavy financial burden.....click here to download the rest of the article
